Enrichment Is Fun For Everyone

We had another quiet week which means there is lots of time for extra cleaning. Samantha and Effie took a break on a snow day to make a snowman for the Scavenger Pen.

They carefully carried it out to the Scavenger Pen.

Daryl was either very unimpressed, or (more likely) soaking up some sunshine.

Maggie wasted no time in removing the snowman’s grape belt and peanut buttons. To see a video of Maggie and the Snowman visit BMW’s FaceBook page.

Northern Saw-whet Owl 18-029

There was just one new arrival this week, a tiny owl from Yakima. It appears to have received a head injury, initially squinting its right eye. After just a few days the eye seems fine, the owl has an excellent appetite and will likely be released soon.

Northern Goshawk 18-022 Update

The gunshot Goshawk from West Richland has been moved to an outside mew. Hopefully he will begin molting his damaged wing feathers soon so we can evaluate him for release.

Bald Eagle 18-006

The juvenile Bald Eagle with lead poisoning continues to beat the odds. She is enthusiastically eating cut up pieces of rat and quail on her own. We are still giving her oral fluids once a day. The next step will be to see if she can tear apart and eat whole rats and quail.
