Blue Mountain Wildlife received notice this past week of two grant awards. A $2,000 grant from Blue Mountain Foundation of Walla Walla will support BMW’s education program. A $12,000 grant from The Kinsman Foundation will support operational expenses. …

Gunshot Kestrel

The week started on a low note with the admission of another gunshot bird, a female Kestrel from Selah, WA. The humerus in both wings was shattered. The fractures were nonrepairable and the bird was euthanized.

Baby Bird Season has ended and Broken Bird Season is here. 

Business really is slowing down. There were just nine new admissions this past week and two days when no new patients arrived. We often don’t know how a bird has been injured, but some of the causes this week were hit by car, gunshot, window strike and collision with an unknown object.

Three Hawks Released

Any time we are able to release an animal it is a great event, but getting to release three hawks who had been illegally shot is even better.

Samantha releasd an adult Swainson’s Hawk who had been shot in North Pasco.
