Thank You Lost And Found Youth

Middle and high school students from Lost And Found Youth used part of there No School Day on Friday to do some early spring cleaning at BMW. What an energetic bunch! Thank you  guys for making short work of a large pile of trash.

Red-tailed Hawk 18-026

It appears that juvenile Red-tailed Hawk 18-026 was struck by a vehicle. There is swelling on the left side of her body from her head to her lower leg. She is unable to stand, but has use of her left foot. There is a small wound on the back of her lower right leg and she is unable to extend the tightly clenched toes of her right foot. We used a plastic mold of her foot to keep the toes extended in a normal position. Her left eye is quite bruised. Her right eye appears normal, but she does not appear to be able to see. Amazingly, she has an excellent appetite, and eagerly takes food from forceps as long as the food is held close to her beak. There is not much we can do except give supportive care and hope she can recover with time.

Bald Eagle 18-016 Update

After three weeks, the fractures are healing, and the eagle is able to stand, but still doesn’t want to use the foot very much.

Bald Eagle 18-006 Update

The lead poisoned Bald Eagle continues her slow recovery. She has little interest in food in the morning, but for the past three evenings she has showed great enthusiasm for her dinner. If she continues at this pace, she will be eating a normal quantity of food by mid-week. Initially she was getting oral fluids three times a day. She has been getting fluids twice a day for the past two weeks. If her appetite continues to increase we will decrease the fluids to just once a day.
