March 21 - March 27

The Week in Review

Thankfully, it was a very quiet week with just one admission, a Great Horned Owl that had serious damage to both of its elbows. The owl would never have been able to fly and was euthanized.

Bald Eagle Patriot in his New Home

Patriot

Before being moved into his new mew, we brought Patriot inside for a physical exam, blood work and radiographs. Eleven years ago he was badly injured when hit by a car. There is still evidence of his wing injury. In the radiograph below you can see the left shoulder muscles are smaller than the right shoulder muscles because he doesn’t use the left wing as much.

There is also still evidence of the healed ulna fracture.

Varied Thrush Release

I was able to take a short drive up into the mountains and release a Varied Thrush. Below is the view from the Scenic Overlook where it was released.
