Frequent Flyer Miles

The Education Team added up the miles this past week traveling to Columbia Park in Kennewick for two days of Salmon Summit, then to Kiwanis Kabin in the mountains east of Pendleton for Pendleton’s Outdoor School, and finally to Moses Lake, WA for two programs at the Moses Lake Museum and Art Center.

First Swainson’s Hawk of the Season

Sadly, the first Swainson’s Hawk of the year was the victim of a gun. A male, adult Swainson’s Hawk was found near Milton-Freewater, unable to fly. A radiograph of the bird showed a large pellet lodged against the base of the skull.

The rest of the week is a blur and included admission of three more Great Horned Owls, six Barn Owls, a Western Screech Owl, two Red-tailed Hawks, the Swainson’s Hawk and two American Kestrels.
